About Brie

Thanks for your interest! I’m an on-location portrait and lifestyle photographer--formerly based in Brooklyn, NY and currently based Montclair, NJ--specializing in newborns, children, families, and professionals. I love creating images that celebrate people and their connections, and I strive to capture them in a creative and authentic way. In other words, you won’t hear me asking you to say “cheese.” I don’t believe a smile is necessary for a successful portrait, and some of my favorite images capture quiet moments. That said, I have plenty of favorites that involve joy, silliness, and laughter, so come prepared to have fun at our session!

My family session style combines modern lifestyle photography (a documentary approach) with a touch of classic portraiture (i.e. the holiday card image). If you’re looking at the camera, great–if you’re interacting with each other, even better. Newborns sessions, too, will have a natural feel and minimal props--I prefer to let the subject shine, and focus on the elements and emotions that make that fleeting time so special. And if we're taking headshots together, we'll spend as much time as we need to ensure your portraits reflect your best self. 

For me, like many, photography started as a passion that eventually grew into a profession. My first career was in book publishing, which I began a decade ago at Random House and later Penguin. As an editor, I helped writers tell their stories, and now, I like to think I’m still helping people tell their stories, in a different way. In 2011, I decided to focus full-time on family and photography, and I haven’t looked back.

Because I’m also a busy mom of 3, I take on a limited number of sessions per month. I work with natural light, in your home or at your favorite outdoor location. I hope we’ll have a chance work together soon.
